100 holes in 9 hours for Charity

100 holes of Golf and over $3000 raised

First and foremost, I want to thank all the members who gave money for us to go out and play golf for Charity.  Between the members and the money raised by the high schools golfers, we will collect more than $3,000 to donate.  That is well worth playing the 100 holes.  Also, thank you to the members that came out throughout the day to support us.

Lastly, thank you to everyone who played, Jim and the five young men from Peninsula High School Golf Team.  Two of the young guys played 45 holes and another young man played 50. Adam Barker and Charlie Peckinpaugh, who are also members at Canterwood, knocked out all 100 holes.  This was a big commitment considering none of us have ever played more than 50 holes and we had to average 5 minutes and 30 seconds per hole without taking the carts off the path to get all 100 holes in.  It took all 9 hours on the nose.  We started when it there was barely light and finished about the same way.

What a crazy long day, I must say at the end we were all a little slap happy and water-logged but it was a lot of fun.

If there is a next time, we will choose a day that has at least 12 hours of daylight and hopefully be able to go 90 degrees with the carts.  Regardless, it was for a good cause.

Thank you all again for your support!!!

Wes Hart - Hole in One

Congratulations to Wes Hart
for hitting his first Hole in One,
on Thursday, October, 18.

He hit it on #7 from 155 yards with an 8-iron.  He flew it directly into the cup, no bounces, that is pretty cool.
Also, you can see Wes proudly sporting his San Francisco Giants hat since they are in the World Series.  We will probably be seeing a lot more of it if they win the whole thing.
Great shot Wes!

2012 Men's MGI

What an amazing week!  Many Clubs try to create traditions but what I saw has to be one of the greatest in any Club's history.  It's everything from the Wednesday night contests and Champions dinner (great job this year, Dr. Russell and Mr. Simpson), to one crazy big Horse Race, a perpetual trophy like no other, one of a kind trophies, the past champions walk with green jackets and finishing up with a dinner/dance (huge party) where it took everyone 3 days to recover.

Thank you to the MGI Committee for all their tireless hours to pull this event off.  Thank you to all the staffs at Canterwood; Golf Staff, Golf Course Maintenence and Food and Beverage.

Congratulations to Jack Simmons!!!!
Mr. Simmons hit his first hole-in-one Wednesday, May 30th on #3.
He hit a 5 iron from 160 yards.
This is our second hole-in-one on #3 in 4 days.  I am starting to think that hole is easier than everyone talks about.

G.I.V.E. Totals from the weekend and Rich Jasper hole-in-one

Thank you to everyone who donated to our

Congratulations to all of our closest to the pin winners.  All of them will receive a free guest pass but the BIG WINNER was Rich Jasper.  He had a hole-in-one on Sunday, May 27th during the holiday couples event.  He hit it on #3 with a 6 iron 160 yards.   Mr. Jasper had given his $10 for G.I.V.E. so he wins a 4 day/3 night stay at one of seven resorts.  This includes 3 rounds of golf and a $500 voucher.

We would like to congratulate the five Canterwood Juniors who qualified and played at the Washington High School State Golf Tournament last week.

Rachel Lewis - 5th Place
Rachel, the defending State Champion, defended well, shooting 73-76.  Rachel will be playing golf next year at Washington State on a golf scholarship.

Chris Tedesco - 6th Place
Chris struggled out of the gate with an 80 but came back strong and climbed back up the leaderboard with a second round 73.  Chris is off to Oregan State next year on a golf scholarship.

An impressive feat, Alec qualified for state this year as a freshman.

Adam Barker

Get Golf Ready - Beginner Golf Clinic

Get Golf Ready in 5 Days – (Adult Clinic)
Five 90-minute lessons for $99
Our first series of classes will begin on Tuesday, April 24th
from 5:00pm to 6:30pm for 5 consecutive Tuesdays.

If you have ever thought about playing golf but are having problems starting the process, then Get Golf Ready is a great way to begin. Whether you are a beginner at golf or returning to the game, the Get Golf Ready Program is designed to teach you, in five short lessons, everything you'll need to know to step onto a golf course and get out to play with confidence.

Lesson 1- We will begin with a brief history of golf.  We will also introduce the fundamentals, including everything from how to dress and act of the golf course to the purpose of each club. To finish, we will even take you onto the golf course to hit a few putts.
Lesson 2- During the second lesson, you'll learn the art of chipping, pitching and hitting out of green-side bunkers, as you learn your way around the course, being out there for the second time.

Lesson 3- On day three, you'll be introduced to the fairway and how to use your irons, in addition to important lessons like stretching and repairing divots.
Lesson 4- On the fourth day, you'll learn everything you'll need to know about teeing off, including which of your metal-woods to use and choosing between the different tee markers.

Lesson 5- On the final day, you'll finish up by learning how to play, keep score and some basic rules like water hazards, out of bounds and lost balls. And then when all is said and done, you'll put it all to use by playing a hole or two.
To sign up, either call the Golf Shop or email Dale at Dale.Davis@ourclub.com

Acura Team Championship - How to Qualify

Acura Team Championship Qualifiers

It’s time to start putting together a team to win a trip to Barton Creek Resort and Spa. Includes room for 4 nights, double occupancy, 4 rounds of golf (1 practice and 3 tournament), special events, tee prizes and awards.

Who May Qualify

All dues-paying members and their spouse and nonresident members may participate. Membership status must be maintained at least six months prior to the national event or six months following the national event. In the event the full entry-fee amount ($7500) is not raised during the qualifiers, the winning team will subsidize the remaining balance.

Team Rules

1. Each team must consist of four adult dues-paying members (including spouses) in good standing, male and/or female, with established USGA handicap indexes totaling no less than 43.

2. Only two members of the team may have a handicap index of 9.9 or less.

3. Each team member must be a club member who meets USGA Amateur Golfer requirements at time of qualifying and the national event.

4. There may be only two members of the previous year’s attending team on a current team attempting to qualify. A member attempting to qualify must use a handicap index that is no more than three strokes higher than his or her lowest handicap index for the 12-month period prior to qualifying at any club.

5. A new member wishing to qualify will be required to have at least five scores at the home club before becoming eligible to compete if he/she does not have an established handicap.

How to Qualify for the Finals

You can sign up as a team of four that fits the Rules Qualifications or even if you are a single let us know in the Golf Shop and we can help find you a team. Once you have a team, set a date to play and give the Golf Shop at least 24 hours notice. If your team shoots 68 or better, your team will qualify for the Finals. Each attempt to qualify will cost $75 per player.

Format - Elimination Scramble

Each team member will tee off on hole No. 1. If you are starting on any other hole, the team decides who will not hit so only four people are hitting. The team decides which shot is most favorable. The player whose shot is chosen is eliminated from hitting the second shot. When the second shot is selected, the player who hit that shot is eliminated from hitting the third shot, etc. A player is only eliminated for the shot following his/her selected shot. This will continue for the entire round; therefore, the player making the last putt on a hole cannot tee off on the following hole. The eliminated player cannot make a practice shot or putt during the time he/she is eliminated. Each violation of the format results in a two-stroke penalty.

Tees – Qualifying rounds

Men will play from the Blue tees, women from the Red tees, seniors (65) will play from Senior tees if their age plus their handicap index is equal to 75 at time of qualifying.

Senior tees will be set approximately 10% less than men's Blue tees; ladies Red tees will be set approximately 18% less than the men's Blue tees for qualifying and the national event.

Finals

The Finals will be held on Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29 with tee times taking place between 8:30 and 10:30am. The qualifying scores do not count toward the Finals. The winning team will be determined by the lowest total score for 36-holes. If there is a tie after 36-holes there will be a sudden death playoff until a winner is determined. What hole we start on will be determined on Sunday depending on course availability. Each team in the Finals will be charged $75 per player.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Dale in the Golf Shop or go to www.ClubCorptournaments.com.
