Canterwood Fit Tip of the Week: The Warm-Up

Canterwood Fit Tip of the Week: The Warm-Up

The purpose of a warm up is to raise your body's core temperature, take joints through a full range of motion, and activate the muscles you intend to train and use. In many ways the warm-up is just as important as the workout. A proper warm-up is going to allow you to exercise with a higher intensity to help make faster gains and also help prepare you physically and mentally for the workout to come.

Posting scores begins Friday, March 1st

Score Posting UpdateMarch 1st is the arrival of the "Active Season" for golf in the Northwest, which means we begin posting scores for handicap purposes on this date. Any scores that you posted on the computer in the golf shop since November of last year will disappear. If you posted on-line or at computers in warmer regions where there is no inactive season, those scores will not disappear and will be used in determining your handicap index. Handicap indexes will be recalculated twice a month on the 1st and the 15th.

Winter Rules Update

Because of the weather in the Pacific Northwest, the golf courses are not always in optimal shape in the spring and the fall. For that reason, there are many times that we end up playing Winter Rules (or playing the ball up). Last year, the Washington State Golf Association made changes to playing Winter Rules so that there was more consistency as to how they were applied. Basically, Winter Rules should be played as follows:
  • In closely mown areas (the fairways) the player may lift, clean and place the ball within 6 inches of where it lies no closer to the hole.
  • In all other areas, (the rough) the ball must be played as it lies and may not be lifted, cleaned or placed.
The thinking being that there should be some sort of punishment for not hitting the ball in the fairway. Certainly all players must follow these procedures when playing in competition and know that if you choose to play the ball up through the green during casual rounds, your handicap will be lower than it should be and this will hurt you in handicapped events.
